Who may request Defender’s assistance

Who and when may request Defender’s assistance
All citizens of Poland and all civic organizations, but also foreign nationals under the authority of the Republic of Poland, irrespective of their legal situation, may request the Defender`s help to protect their rights and freedoms when infringed by the public authorities.

A request may be lodged with Human Rights Defender when actions or decisions of the public administration bodies infringe the law or human freedoms. Such a request may also be submitted when an action is abandoned or a decision is not issued, although an authority was obliged to do so.

Requests addressed to the Human Rights Defender may be submitted by mail, personally (orally or in writing) in the Defender’s Office or submitted on the electronic form available in the contact section of the Defender’s website (www.rpo.gov.pl).

The request should include:
a) name, surname and a mailing address;
b) detailed description of the case with concise and explicit arguments evidencing the infringement of the law or freedoms.
Any documents (copies or certified copies) required to prove the described situation should also be attached.
