Commissioner for Human Rights

The intellectually disabled in penitentiary institutions

Date:

The Commissioner has alerted the prison services multiple times to the issues concerning the functioning of people with intellectual or mental disability in penitentiary institutions. During the last months, the Deputy Commissioner and the Office’s employees have carried out inspections in four diagnostic centres in detention institutions. Answering the Commissioner’s address, the General Director of the Prison Service has presented, among other things, the  information on tests that are carried out in diagnostic centres and responded to the comments on the living conditions of people who stay there.
