Marcin Wiącek met with Rashed Mustafe Sarwar, UNICEF national coordinator in Poland

On January 10, 2023, CHR Marcin Wiącek received Rashed Mustafe Sarwar the UNICEF national coordinator in Poland. The Commissioner was accompanied by the main coordinator for scientific cooperation Maciej Grześkowiak and the head of the Family Law Department Michał Kubalski. The meeting was devoted to the exchange of experiences in the area of children's rights in Poland, in particular in connection with the presence of children from Ukraine and the humanitarian crisis on the Polish-Belarusian border. The meeting concerned issues such as the protection of children crossing both borders, pushbacks, detention of minors, or issues related to legal differences between Poland and Ukraine affecting the situation of children from Ukraine in Poland. The possibility of cooperation for the protection of children's rights was also discussed, in particular in connection with the presence of underage refugees in Poland. 
The UNICEF (Emergency Response) office was established in Poland after the outbreak of the war in Ukraine and primarily deals with helping children and youth of Ukrainian refugees residing in Poland. The programs relate to the sectors of education, protection of children's rights, health, etc.
