Meeting with with representatives of the Commission for Human Rights and Humanitarian Aid of the German Bundestag

On June 1st the Deputy Commissioner for Human Rights Wojciech Brzozowski met with representatives of the Commission for Human Rights and Humanitarian Aid of the German Bundestag. 

The main topic of the meeting were issues related to the protection of human rights in Poland and the duties of the Polish CHR.
Of particular interest to the Commission’s representatives were issues related to the rights and freedoms of the LGBTIQ community with regard to the access to healthcare and impediments to everyday life. The participants also discussed the situation on the Polish-Belarusian border in light of the recent humanitarian crisis. Deputy Commissioner Brzozowski also presented the CHR position regarding the implementation of European court’s rulings by Poland as well as the CHR assessment of the Law on the State Commission to Investigate Russian Influence on Internal Security in the Republic of Poland between 2007 and 2022. Among other issues, topics of the legislation passed during the COVID-19 pandemic and protection of the rule of law in Poland were also addressed.
The German delegation consisted of the president of the Commission Ms. Renata Alt, her deputy Mr. Norbert Altenkamp and four members of the Commission. The delegation was accompanied by Ms. Andrea Eriksson and the representatives from German Ambassy in Poland.
The Commission for Human Rights and Humanitarian Aid is responsible for issues regarding the protection of human rights and humanitarian aid focusing mostly on the situation of minorities and immigrants. It consists of 17 members of the Bundestag.
