Seminar of the European Network of Ombudsmen

Date:

The 10th National Seminar of the European Network of Ombudsmen took place from 26 – 28 April 2015 in Warsaw. The conference was co-hosted by Polish Human Rights Defender Prof. Irena Lipowicz and European Ombudsman Emily O’Reilly.

The 10th National Seminar of the European Network of Ombudsmen took place under the heading “Ombudsmen against discrimination” and enabled the exchange of experiences and ideas of national Ombudsmen from 30 European countries.

The seminar focused on topics such as the rights of persons with disabilities, the rights of elderly people or the rights of national minorities. Each of the main topics was discussed in more details in separate working groups.

On account of the fact that 2015 marks the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the seminar was held in the Museum of the History of Polish Jews and concluded with a symbolic visit to the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum on 29 April 2015.

Seminars for national ombudsmen provide an opportunity to exchange experiences and identify best practices in the field of civil rights. They are held every two years. The first one was held in 1996 in Strasbourg.
